We were delighted to attend the official launch of the Rotary Sanderstead and Selsdon’s seventh defibrillator unit outside Sanderstead library yesterday. This has been made possible by 18th Purley Scout Group (based in Farmfields opposite the library) and Rotary. Councillor Yvette Hopley cut the ribbon and Deputy Mayor Lynne Hale also attended.
There are now defib units in several locations in our area: Sanderstead library (Farmfields), All Saints’ church hall (Onslow Gardens), Corner House Tea Room (Hamsey Green), Waitrose, Kingsmead Equestrian Centre (Kingswood Lane), Ridgeway School, Gresham School, Sanderstead Lawn Tennis and Social Club (Penwortham Road), Purley Downs Golf Club. It is worth residents noting these locations but we obviously hope that they will not have to be used.
We were shown a demonstration of how to use the defib unit. Clear audio instructions are given ensuring that you use the equipment correctly. It is advisable to call 999 via the link inside the unit before using the equipment.
