The film was adapted from the 1987 novel ‘Strangers’ of Taichi Yamada is a tender ghost story.

In the story the main character, played by Andrew Scott, travels back to his childhood home where is parents (played by Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) greet him, although they died when he was 12.

The house used is in Purley Downs Down which is where the writer-director of the film, Andrew Haigh, grew up. Other scenes were shot in Hardy’s Fish and Chips, the recreation ground, Sanderstead Station and the Whitgift Centre.
