We have received information from TfL about a 4 week tram closure on all lines  east of East Croydon.

London Tram customers are being advised of this upcoming closure for essential maintenace work. No trams will run from East Croydon to New Addington, Elmers End and Beckenham Juntion from 29 March to 24 April but tram replacement bus services will be available to ensure that customers can get where they need to go.

This planned maintenance is vital to ensure Tfl can continue to offer customers a reliable service across the London Trams network.

These works on the tract will take place at two key locations, East Croydon and Sandilands Junction. They include upgrading the ‘swtiches and crossing’ units, which control how trams manoeuvre on the tracks, and renewing existing track. Work on the tracks will take place at the same time as doing it separately would result in the train service being closed for longer.

This closure will largely take place during the Easter school holidays when customers numbers are lower, with engineering teams working around the clock to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Other public transport options will remain available within Croydon and the wider surrounding area. This includes London Overground (at West Croydon) and National Rail (at East Croydon, Elmers End, Birkbeck and Beckenham Junction).

TfL will be helping customers by providing Tram replacement bus services and an increased frequency of local buses in the areas affected.

To support customers with onward travel advice there will also be uniformed trams staff at key tram stops. These include Addington Village, Addiscombe, Beckenham Junction, Coombe Lane, East Croydon, Lloyd Park, New Addington, Sandilands, and Woodside.

The Hopper fare continues to be availabel for adult pay-as-you-go customers, giving unlimited journeys on buses and trams for £1.75 when made within one hour of touching in. This means customers should pay no more than normal to complete their journey during these weeks.

Information regarding these temporary changes and travel advice will be displayed at local tram stops and customers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider alternative travel options using real-time travel tools including Journey Planner (1) and TfL Go (2).

TfL would like to thank customers for their patience while these works take place, but please do let them know if you have any further questions about this closure.
