The popular summer reading challenge is back this summer at Sanderstead Library. Bring your children along to encourage a love of books and reading.

When: Saturday 6 July until Saturday 14 September 2024

Audience: Aimed at children aged 4 to 11

For this year’s Summer Reading Challenge,The Reading Agency have teamed up with Create. The aim this year is to enable children to understand, appreciate and express themselves through reading and creativity.

With free rewards to collect and plenty of brilliant books to enjoy, the Challenge is the perfect summer activity to keep young minds and bodies active over the holidays. 

About Marvellous Makers!

The Marvellous Makers are all part of a creative club.  They are making amazing things inspired by their favourite books.  There’s a festival at their library this summer and the Marvellous Makers can’t wait to show everyone what they have made!

 

How to complete the challenge

Children across the borough, aged 4 to 11, are invited to visit their local Croydon library to sign up to Marvellous Makers and complete the Challenge by reading six books.

Croydon Libraries offer a wide range of books to borrow or download e-books or e-audiobooks from our digital library.

All children who complete the challenge can enter into a prize draw!

Prizes include :

  • Godstone Farm Entry ticket for 2 adults and 2 children
  • CroyWall Climbing Centre session
  • Flipout voucher

SPECIAL EVENTS AT SANDERSTEAD LIBRARY LINKED TO THE READING CHALLENGE

Monday 15th July and Monday 12th August between 11 and 11.30 there will be a Marvellous Makers storytime session for the under 8s.

Friday 19th July between 3 and 4pm, paper plane making for the over 5s.

Friday 9th August between 10.30 and 11.30am, paper plate weaving for the over 4s.

Monday 19th August between 2-3pm , easy origami for all ages.

Character Hunt Inside and Outside from Monday 19th August until Monday 2nd September, for all ages.
