We posted in July about the Council turning off the pay and display parking machines.

There has been a lot of social media comments as now you have to register for your free hour of parking at local shops. This has caused confusion as previously you did not have to do anything as long as you were parked for under an hour. Now you have to register with Ringo for your free hour. If you do not have a smart phone you can pre-book your slot by phoning a landline number, but you would not know if there was a space available! You can also go into a Pay Point shop – Orange Local in Limpsfield Road by the pet shop and The Wine Cellar in Sanderstead Station Parade.

SRA feel this is disadvantageous particularly to elderly residents who often just ‘pop’ into a shop to collect a prescription, paper, pint of milk etc. Ironically Sanderstead is the Croydon borough with the highest percentage of over 65s too! It is also very uphelpful to local shops as it is likely to reduce footfall.

If you do have the Ringo app, it will know where you are. You should not scan the QR code on the notice as criminals have been known to put fake ones on top.
