We, that is four committee members and Councillor Helen Redfern, went to the library yesterday afternoon with some wine and crisps to toast the incredible library staff and thank them for all their hard work.
Despite being the last day the library was as usual a hub of activity with people coming and going plus the craft club had their final meeting and the pcs were being used. Some users came in with gifts for the staff. However some of those we spoke to were unaware that this was the last day that the library would be open. Past members of staff also came to say farewell. All in all a very sad day for Sanderstead with the loss of our only secular public building which was very well used.
SRA continue to engage with the Council over what will happen with the building and are committed to trying to ensure that a Community use is maintained which will include some form of library.
