A letter sent to the residents of Jasmine Lodge by our local councillors:
Dear Resident of Jasmine Lodge,
Thank you for contacting your local Sanderstead councillors and for raising your concerns regarding the incident that occurred at Jasmine Lodge on 8 July 2026.
We appreciate that this incident has caused considerable concern and anxiety for residents, particularly families living within the area. The safety and wellbeing of residents is of paramount importance, and I understand why many people are seeking reassurance and information about the response and ongoing investigation.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they are leading an investigation into a possible firearms discharge at the location. Officers attended the scene, conducted an area search and recovered items believed to be related to the incident, which is being further investigated. The investigation is currently being led by Specialist Crime South (Trident), the unit responsible for investigating firearms discharges across London. The police have advised that, as the investigation is at an early stage, they are unable to provide further detail regarding motive or specific investigative actions at this time.
The local policing team is aware of the incident and has confirmed that reassurance patrols will be undertaken in the area.
At present, Croydon Council has not received any information from the police indicating any wider risk to residents. However, we will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police and local partners to monitor the situation and provide support where appropriate.
